Patron Saint of Lawyers Painting Donated to Law Library

The library is pleased to announce that it has received a painting of Saint Thomas More.  The painting was generously donated by the law firm McKay Chadwell, PLLC.  Professor John McKay was instrumental in helping arrange this gift from his brother Mike McKay and Bob Chadwell.  The framed print was appropriately presented during Red Mass 2009 in honor and in memory of beloved King County Prosecuting Attorney, Norm Maleng, who mentored so many in the Seattle legal community.  St. Thomas More is well recognized as the patron saint of lawyers.  The print in the SU Law library is among the most famous of the portraits of St. Thomas More.  Painted by German artist, Hans Holbein The Younger (1497/98-1543), in 1527, the original resides in The Frick Collection in New York City.  The painting is located in the fourth floor of the library, near the Dolliver Reading Room.
