Dispute Resolution at the 2012 Olympiad

Where do athletes take disputes that may arise under the Olympic Charter? Under Article 61 of the Olympic Charter, The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) provides the exclusive dispute resolution mechanism under this instrument. The CAS, in turn, establishes an Ad Hoc Division (AHD) at the Olympic venue to hear cases which may arise as a result of a decision of the IOC, a National Organizing Committee, an International Sports Federation or the Olympic site organizing committee. The AHD begins operation ten days before the opening ceremony. Prior to the opening three cases had already been filed. Read more about the CAS and its involvement in the Olympics here.
