In The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance James Stewart plays Ransom Stoddard, a senator who had become a legend for killing the outlaw Liberty Valance. Stoddard and his wife return to the town where they met for the funeral of his old friend, Tom Doniphon (John Wayne). While in town a reporter asks Stoddard why he came back for the funeral, and Stoddard confesses the real story of who shot Liberty Vallance.
