North Country is based on a true story about the first successful sexual harassment case in the United States, Jenson vs. Eveleth Mines. Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron) returns to her hometown in northern Minnesota after leaving an abusive husband. In order to support her children she takes a job in a steel mine where she once again finds abuse. The men in the mines physically, verbally, and sexually harass their female coworkers. Jose Aimes fights back and in 1984 wins a landmark lawsuit.
