Based on actual events, Sarah Tobias (Jodie Foster) is a rape victim enraged that her attackers received a lenient sentence because of what was described as her own “questionable character.” When seeing how the outcome has affected Tobias, her lawyer, District Attorney Kathryn Murphy (Kelly McGillis), decides to go after the onlookers who cheered on the attackers at the bar where Tobias was raped.
