Written and directed by Atom Egoyan, The Sweet Hereafter is the film adaptation of Russell Banks’ novel. After a tragic school bus accident, a grieving small town is persuaded by a high-profile lawyer, Mitchell Stephens (Ian Holm), to initiate a lawsuit against the bus company. However, as Stephens begins his investigation he uncovers lies and old wounds that could prevent any healing or recovery for the town.
