Check it Out: Hart’s War

Hart's WarLt. Tommy Hart is a second year Harvard Law student who enlisted to fight in World War II, but instead of fighting he was taken prisoner by the Germans. When a black Tuskegee airman, Lt. Lincoln Scott (Terrence Howard), is accused of murdering one of the other prisoners, Col. William McNamara (Bruce Willis) convinces the German Col. Visser to allow the prisoners to hold their own trial. Lt. Hart tries the case and finds out Col. McNamara’s true intentions for staging the trial. Check out Hart’s War from the law library.

Check it Out: The Verdict

Frank Galvin (Paul Newman) tries to redeem his legal career and salvage his self-respect by taking a medical malpractice suit to court. Check out The Verdict from the law library and witness an outstanding performance by Paul Newman in this courtroom drama.

Check it Out: Breaker Morant

At the end of the Boer War, three Australian Army officers are court-martialed. Lieutenants Harry “Breaker” Morant, Peter Handcock, and George Witton are charged with the murder of Boer soldiers and a German missionary. The three soldiers are defended by Major J. F. Thomas, who is only given one day to prepare for the trial. Check out Breaker Morant from the law library and watch one of the most controversial murder trials in military history.

Check it Out: The Chamber

The Chamber is based on the novel by John Grisham. Young attorney Adam Hall (Chris O’Donnell) seeks to appeal the death penalty for his racist grandfather Sam Cayhall (Gene Hackman). Cayhill, an outspoken member of the KKK, is on death row for the murder of two children. Hall has 28 days to have the death sentence commuted and come to terms with who and what his grandfather is.

Check it Out: Rules of Engagement

Military lawyer Hays Hodges (Tommy Lee Jones) defends Colonel Terry Childers (Samuel L. Jackson), who is on trial for breaking the rules of engagement on a peace-keeping mission in Yemen. He ordered his troops to fire on civilians when they stormed a U. S. embassy. Hodges and Childers had stood beside each other on the battlefield where Childers saved Hodges life, and now Hodges must find a way to save Childers. Check it Out: Wall Street

Directed by Oliver Stone, Wall Street provides a look into big business practices in the 1980s. Young stockbroker Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) is enamored with the financial cunning of Wall Street legend Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), who takes the young Fox under his wing and leads him down a path of fraud and treachery.
