So why is the Uniform Commercial Code called “uniform”?

The reason is because it was drafted as a uniform act by the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL). NCCUSL is an organization represented by lawyers from all 50 states who meet to propose laws on subjects that they believe should be consistent from state to state. NCCUSL drafts the uniform laws in hopes that the legislatures from the various states will adopt them and thereby create uniformity. NCCUSL has drafted more than 300 uniform laws and you can find them all on its website. It also provides information on why the law was drafted and which states have adopted each uniform law.
